Robert Best - The Singing Plumber

Thirty Nine year old Robert Best, a qualified plumber by profession, lives in the parish of St. Peter and sings with St. Peter's church choir.

"I joined the choir 18 years ago because of my love for singing. I have played Stephen in the opera Iolante, and Frederic in the Pirates of Penzance. During the 1996 Holders Season, I sang in the choir at the famous Holders House for Tosca and The Mikado".

Robert who has been a member of the Barbados festival choir since 1986, has preformed with many local theatrical productions including the renowned "Bimshire" and "Thrity Five and Going". As a chorister at St. Peters Church and the leading tenor he has performed works such as; "Seven Last Words", "Haydn mass in D minor", "Creation", "Handel's Messiah" and "Rossini's Stabat Mata".

"I am looking forward to the great Pavarotti's performance in March 1997 at the 'Holders Season' in Barbados. Pavarotti has always been my inspiration and it would be my chosen dream just to sing a song with him".

This dedicated Barbadian singer brings much joy to the congregation of St. Peters Church, with his moving renditions of classical hymns and music like:........

"Jesu, joy of man's desiring"

(A stairway to Heaven)

Jesu, joy of man's desiring
Through the way where Hope is guiding
Jesu, joy of man's desiring
Through the way where Hope is guiding

Holy wisdom. Love most bright
Hark what peaceful music rings
Holy wisdom. Love most bright
Hark what peaceful music rings

.....Bach.
