Barbados Self Catering Hotels and Apartments by Location

Location, location, location! Barbados self-catering apartments and hotels are mostly clustered along the west and south coasts of the island, near to beaches, nightlife, restaurants and supermarkets. You'll find a few lovely secluded properties in the east and also a couple up north, particularly on the north-west coast. We've sorted this list by distance from the airport and the capital city Bridgetown. Head west for really tranquil beaches, south for more lively surf, and east for ruggedly beautiful coastlines and lovely bays.

Location is extremely important when picking your self-catering holiday accommodation. While Barbados is quite small and easy to travel around by car & bus, it's nice to be within walking distance of beaches and amenities. Most Barbados holiday apartments are located close to amenities, a few are specifically located away from the crowd, tucked away in hideaways but even then nothing is ever far away.

West
Many self catering apartments on the west coast are located in the Holetown/Sunset Crest area. These can be standalone bungalows set in tropical gardens, or part on a condo complex with on-site features such as swimming pool and restaurant. Being on the west coast puts you right on the doorstep of beautiful beaches with calm waters ideal for swimming, seabathing and watersports.

South
Head to the south coast for more lively waves and active watersports such as boogie boarding, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Here you'll find many apartment hotels which combine features of a hotel (concierge, pool, bar, entertainment) with the convenience of self catering facilities. St.Lawrence Gap is the place to stay if you want to be in the heart of the action, with nightclubs just a few steps away. The Maxwell and Silver Sands areas offer a quieter alternative. The sea close to Silver Sands is ideal for kitesurfing and sailboard activity.

East
The east coast offers a rugged coastline with delightful bays that are safe for swimming. This is the place to go to really get way from it all. With not many restaurants to pick from, self-catering is a smart choice. Check out the Bathsheba/Tent Bay area which is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and perfect surfing conditions.

North
Most self-catering accommodation up north is on the calmer western side of the island. The beaches here are quieter than further down the west coast and the lifestyle more laidback. Supermarkets and fruit & vegetable vendors in the northern town of Speightstown and the nearby auto-marts will keep you supplied.
